As Environude, these nude portrait sessions are aimed at normalising and destigmatising nudity, honestly!
Unlike many, I am firm on drawing a line between sexually suggestive/provocative imagery and nude portraiture. Why? Because believe it or not, there is a difference which is important to recognise and be aware of...
Nude portraits are really special, a photograph or series of photographs of you that truly capture yourself in your most natural form.
My approach is that a nude portrait is no different to socially acceptable portraits of every day people.
Obviously they are a little different, but with knowledge, experience, patience, respect and trust; the final outcome is often one to be immensely proud of and can be truly inspiring to others.
"I shouldn't have to cover up my body for you to respect me.
My body is part of who I am, as much as my voice is. Asking me to cover up my body for you to be able to respect me, is like asking me to shut up for you to be able to respect me."
-Farida D.
Nudity is something that is seemingly taken away from us at a young age... That lack of comfort and acceptance in our very own skin has flow on effects right throughout life.
To be comfortable and confident in the clothes we wear is one thing, but to be comfortable in our very own skin is a comfort, strength, freedom and power like no other!
Regaining that control in the face of a sexist society can be incredibly difficult, at times near impossible!
Small actions help though and these efforts can and often do help others reclaim their body from the overbearing control of society. It sets a challenge for others to see beyond the deeply ingrained sexism and sexualisation of our human body.
My rates aren't about making copious amounts of money, they are simply to help cover the cost associated with travel to beautiful, natural locations and the software and equipment I use to bring photos to life.
Splitting the cost between 2 or more people and carpooling to a location can help reduce the cost, however I am flexible around accommodating individual sessions at minimal cost.
Note: I am a Photographer not a Pornographer, so my portraits will never be locked away behind paywalls for the viewing of perverts. The value is in my abilities to create a portrait, not in selling censored and sexualised imagery of women or men.
I don't allow for my photography to be used for content on paid subscription platforms.
On the day, the subject/s can review all photographs and make a selection from the camera, this helps me focus in on what images to finish off in post production.
Digital copies are exported for online use and are made accessible via file transfer such as Onedrive. Professional prints can be organised at an additional cost.
A Model release isn't something I have ever been overly comfortable with and only used it once. It is a consent form but also broadly waives the model of any rights or interest around image control.
Communication and transparency is key, so as to ensure we are on the same page.
As for anonymity, there needs to be trust between the subject and photographer...
Association and credit to online images can be a blessing or a curse, especially around working with nudity. But that's not to say that images must be displayed in an online environment!
Safety is often spoken about with this genre, in particular womens safety. Sadly it is an important factor considering the society we live in.
My work now speaks for itself. I couldn't have created a portfolio of work without the trust and respect of other people and it's that trust and respect I give right back.
Whether you are wearing clothes or not, a photo session is a safe and respectful experience from start to finish.
Environmentally: The outdoors can be hazardous, from the sun and heat to the cold and wet, isolated locations need caution and safety to be at the very front of mind at all times.
Your comfort and safety as well as mine is always the number one top priority, above all else!
